Tougher than your average player, Carlyle Lewis is the heavy weight the Giants have lacked since Mel Angelstad played in the red, white and teal. A former team-mate of Ed's in South Carolina, Lewis has a reputation for being a hard-nosed power forward with a mean streak to boot. The 6'3" 235 lbs (almost 17 stone) right-winger hails from Middleton, Nova Scotia and is expected to make a huge impact in the Elite League next season. Much more than just a tough guy, Lewis can put the puck in the net and last season in Bolzano, Italy he racked up 25 points in 29 games.
Carlyle Lewis is a hard hitting forward that has a huge presence on the ice and has the creative ability to play on one of our top lines. He played in Italy last season, which shows that he has the skill for the European game, while still maintaining an intimidating edge over most of his competition. In the league today, teams can't afford to use an import spot on a player that is one dimensional, particularly a tough guy that can't do much else to help the team.
Lewis is 29 years old and is a right-handed shot. He played extensively in the North American Minor Leagues, including a two-year stint with the Albany River Rats, the top affiliate for the NHL New Jersey Devils where he played with current Giants star, George Awada. Coach Courtenay has high hopes for Lewis and has first hand knowledge of just how valuable he is to a team, on and off the ice.
